Over the last months, the inFocus team has been collaborating closely on several fronts with its strategic partner, Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Laureus is one of the leading global networks and funding organisations in the world of Sport for Development, supporting over 100 innovative sport for development projects worldwide. Backed by the power of the Laureus World Sports Awards and supported by the global sporting superstars of the Laureus Academy, Laureus is a positive force for change in the world. In September, Dr Damian Hatton (Managing Director & co-founder of inFocus) participated in the strategic design and launch of the Laureus Model City Initiative in New Orleans. The Model City Initiative is an effort to bring together sport for development organizations based in the same city. It encourages them to coordinate efforts and work together to best address local youth issues. These organizations will form a coalition that enables them to share resources and best practices in order to create more sustainable programming; this will collectively have a greater effect on that city’s youth then each organization working alone. In New Orleans, the coalition collaborated to determine that its main objective is to improve universal access and make it easier for youth to get involved in organized sports and activities that help promote child social development and emotional learning. Laureus USA’s role is to serve as the backbone of the coalition in terms of ongoing coordination and center of communication in order to ensure this collective initiative is maximizing its efforts. In October, over 100 organisations gathered for the latest Laureus Global Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Sports stars, government ministers and heads of business networked with charities using sports to tackle pressing social issues around the world. Young people were also be given a platform to share their views and experiences, drawing on the huge success of the Laureus Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES), a highly impactful youth leadership programme. Following the Summit the inFocus team will be coordinating the implementation of Social Impact Measurement capacity development plans for Laureus organisations.
