About the course

Created for those needing a cost effective, yet comprehensive solution to developing and deploying an effective monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) system.

The CIM course is our flagship training offer in Impact Measurement and offers a deep-dive into key topics including participatory impact measurement, developing a theory of change, data collection methods and how to communicate your impact. Through exercises, videos and quizzes the e-learning component provides an interactive and immersive learning experience that is split into 15 modules, so you can jump in and out of different topics as required. It’s fully supported with downloadable guides, templates and a workbook to populate as you go!

It builds in LIVE group trainings and practicals spread flexibly across the year, giving you plenty of different opportunities to access them. PLUS a 1:1 advice and guidance session with an expert concerning your Impact Measurement goals, challenges, or current situation. Your MEL Health Check will also help pinpoint your current gaps and weaknesses and result in a personalised capacity development plan.

The course content is designed by experienced Impact Measurement practitioners along with experts in digital education from the University of Edinburgh.

FAQs

Yes – the course includes both e-learning modules that you can access at any time as well as entry into our live four-week tutorials and practicals webinar series which we hold 2-3 three times a year. When you sign up, we will let you know when the next set of tutorials will be taking place. All of these sessions will be fully virtual so that you can access them from anywhere.

When you sign up, you’ll create a username and password to allow you access to your course account. This user profile will get you access to either the FIM course or, if you’ve purchased the CIM course, all the additional elements of the CIM course option as well.
How long the course takes to complete depends on your availability, what you want out of the training and how many hours a week you plan to spend on the material. However, the course is designed to be digested at your own pace and in a fully flexible manner. Hence you have continuous access for a full year to space it out across, but if you’re keen, you might complete it during the first month! You might also choose to just dip in and out of certain parts, depending upon your needs. There are three components that will require varying amounts of your time – the eLearning, the live group tutorials and practicals, and the 1:1 CoPilot sessions.
The FIM course contains 1-2 hours of e-learning material as well as the included guides and supplemental materials. We would recommend you anticipate it taking 2-3 hours total to take full advantage of all the course has to offer. The CIM course contains 10-12 hours of eLearning and materials.
No problem – we run each series 2-3 times per year. If you aren’t available for the dates, you can always join in on the next one!
Yes! You can sign up for the FIM course for FREE and access the Introductory Webinar whenever one is scheduled. If you want to access the Tutorials (x4) and Practicals (x4) only, you can purchase these with a Series Pass separately through our events page. Just login with your FIM credentials and sign up!

You can learn more about CoPiloting here. The CoPilot Discovery session consists of a 30 minute call with a MEL expert (included for FREE with both courses). The MEL Health Check (included only with a CIM course membership) includes some offline work by an inFocus Consultant reviewing background materials and documentation supplied by you and related to a development task. This is usually followed by a 30 minute information, advice and guidance session with you to guide your next steps. See here for more details about the Health Check.

Your CIM course access will last for 12 months from the day you first enroll onto the course. During this time you will have access to all the CIM course content and events. The Tutorials and Practicals run as a series at least twice a year (usually more), giving you several opportunities to attend across the year. All dates for upcoming webinars are listed in advance in the events section. After the 12 months your membership will default back to FIM course access, which is forever!
The CIM course gives you access to our two four-week live webinar series, Tutorials and Practicals which both run at least two times a year. Each individual webinar lasts two-hours, which includes a 15 minute Q&A section at the end.
No, you can always sign up individually! Our tutorials and practicals are populated by everyone who has joined since the last session took place.
